This is Two Minute Tech Tips, I’m your host Lester Steward. In this series we are discussing Business cybersecurity and what you need to know to protect your business.
Have you ever been so exhausted in your job that the choices you make are on autopilot? Like there’s no actual thought put into them, or questions aren’t asked because you and other staff are just kind of done? This can cause cybersecurity concerns.
I’m not going to give advice on how to deal with mental health issues or burnout because I’m not an expert in any way and don’t want to give any information that is wrong. If you’re struggling with mental health issues like extreme stress, anxiety, burnout, or any mental state that’s unhealthy, please find help outside yourself.
Now how can mental health affect cybersecurity? If I’m in burnout mode then the choices I make are more than likely going to be the easy choice, the choice that takes little to no effort. Cybersecurity threats are always evolving and if we don’t evolve with them then the business can be vulnerable to attacks. I wish there was a pause button on having to worry about security or monitoring constantly but there isn’t, and you can be sure that a bad actor is always lurking about, looking for a way to attack.
Employers, take steps to help your staff avoid these mental health issues. It should be part of your job to recognize the signs of burnout and get people what they need. Whether that’s some extra time off or maybe lighten their workload, don’t create more stress by pushing them to hard. Because an employee who is mentally checked-out while at work is going to make a poor choice which will cause more stress for everyone in the business.
If you’re in a bad place and thinking about hurting yourself or have no one to talk to please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-8255.
On the next episode I’ll be discussing ransomware and steps to protect yourself.
Thanks for joining me, Lester Steward for your Two Minute Tech Tips, helping you keep safe in your cybersecurity world.
