Invest in Your Health

This is Two Minute Tech Tips, I’m your host Lester Steward. In this series we are discussing Business cybersecurity and what you need to know to protect your business.

Family, work, bills, to-do lists, social life, politics, this uncertain future. There’s so much to stress about and pull a person apart constantly. How does someone even start investing in their health before it gets to a point of no return?

Both physical and mental health are important and work hand in hand. If you’re physical health is failing, then it can cause mental struggles and could slip into full on depression. If you struggle with your mental health, then the grip of this weight can cause procrastination on dealing with physical health. I personally struggle with procrastination and then get down on myself for not accomplishing something and it creates this loop that seems impassible. Now, I have little knowledge on mental or physical health and how to treat them, but in my personal life it’s small changes daily that keep the bigger goals achievable.

Now how can your health affect cybersecurity? If I’m in burnout mode then the choices I make are more than likely going to be the easy choice, the choice that takes little to no effort. Cybersecurity threats are always evolving and if we don’t evolve with them then the business can be vulnerable to attacks. I wish there was a pause button on having to worry about security or monitoring constantly but there isn’t, and you can be sure that a bad actor is always lurking about, looking for a way to attack.

Employers, take steps to help your staff avoid these health issues. It should be part of your job to recognize the signs of burnout or other health issues and get people what they need. Whether that’s some extra time off or maybe lighten their workload, don’t create more stress by pushing them too hard. Because an employee who’s on autopilot while at work can make a poor choice which could cause more stress for everyone.

On the next episode I’m starting a series to discuss different types of attacks that everyone should recognize.
