Invest in Real Experts

This is Two Minute Tech Tips, I’m your host Lester Steward. In this series we are discussing Business cybersecurity and what you need to know to protect your business.

What makes an expert? Is it someone who’s been studying a subject for a certain number of years? Is it a person that has 10,000 hours of hard-earned work at one thing? Is an expert someone who knows more than another person? Or can a person proclaim themselves an expert on a subject because of “A”, “B”, or “C”? My opinion is all the above mixed with a little passion for the subject.

For anything to do with IT, an expert must be trusted. You need to find someone that is giving recommendations not based purely on financial gains but also what would be best for your situation. An IT services firm needs to make money sure, but simply pushing you into a product or service without an actual need breaks the trust between the partners.

Real experts also help prevent issues before they happen. I’ve said it in this series already, “It’s better to have planned then experience panic”. A real IT service should do their best to at least recommend fixes and upgrades before there are issues. If you trust your IT partner, then work with them to keep up with tech. Invest in your business to keep IT stable. Also do your homework on anything that’s recommended and don’t blindly trust, there needs to be true checks and balance.

On the next episode I’ll continue this series with an episode about investing in training for you and staff.
