Invest in Security

This is Two Minute Tech Tips, I’m your host Lester Steward. In this series we are discussing Business cybersecurity and what you need to know to protect your business.

Security is a constant in IT. Whether it’s a firewall system, anti-virus, or software updates, they are always in need of investment. Here at North Tech Group, we are constantly auditing our clients for security holes or improvements that can bolster their protections.

A small business should be looking to invest in security infrastructure. There is always room to improve. The cycle of cybersecurity is a bad-actor or programmer finds an exploit in some software or hardware and the manufacturer must send out a patch, which is then updated by software or firmware, then the cycle repeats. It’s never ending and cannot be avoided.

Taking a layered approach in security will ensure there are multiple protections in place and assumes one or more layers will fail temporarily. This takes an investment. To do security the right way your business needs the equipment and the staff to put time into this infrastructure. It’s also a great idea to have an outsider audit the network on occasion to double ensure its protected. This will incur a cost and doing it “on the cheap” will quickly show deficiencies.

Don’t cut corners when it comes to protection, those “free” antiviruses won’t do what you need them to. Make sure you invest properly in your security.

On the next episode I’ll continue this series with an episode about investing in real experts.
