This is Two Minute Tech Tips, I’m your host Lester Steward. In this series we are discussing Business cybersecurity and what you need to know to protect your business.
Do you have a current backup of all your critical data? Would you lose a bunch of precious pictures or business critical files if your computer just decided to stop working today? Backing up is one of the simplest yet most effective ways to protect yourself from ransomware or hardware failures. You need a good and consistent backup routine.
Three methods of backup that will keep your devices protected are daily local backups, daily online backups, and weekly unplugged backups.
Daily local backups can be done with a USB drive plugged into your device or a NAS, Network Attached Storage, that your devices connect to over the local network. Daily online backups sync to a cloud storage service like Microsoft OneDrive, Apple iCloud, Nordic Backup, etc. And a weekly backup on a USB drive or NAS that is unplugged or turned off while not backing up.
I can’t even count how many times I’ve had to tell someone the devastating news that all their important files or un-replaceable pictures, that they only had on this one device, are now completely gone. This issue can be avoided.
Do you have a good backup routine? Do you even backup at all? Many computer issues can be solved with this one simple step.
Get a good backup, it will save you a lot of stress.
